This New Horror Film Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

We present a challenge for those in enduring partnerships who appreciate horror films: Get comfortable with your significant other and stream Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its launch on a streaming platform on the Hulu service. At first glance, it may seem like typical body horror, but beneath Together exists a profound contemplation about how we choose to love one another.

A Debut Feature Exploring The Nuances of Love

Together marks the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for a decade. United in marriage in real life in 2017, the actors contribute a unique chemistry to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the strengths and weaknesses of a committed partnership.

The story begins when the couple relocate from the metropolis to the countryside for professional reasons. A commonly used story element, sure, but that’s primarily where the cliches conclude. Together evolves into as much a psychological exploration of the partnership as it is a body horror flick.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their new home, a tempest descends, and Millie and Tim discover an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity takes hold of the couple. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes well past emotional intimacy.

The complete narrative is a gradually intensifying horror experience, interspersing elements of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes during something horrific). The director skillfully blends these components seamlessly and wraps them up in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A large part of Together is only the two lead actors, and they masterfully render countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his floundering music career inexorably rises.

Conversely, Tim experiences isolation and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve moved to the country and distant from his support system. He is terrified of the notion of utterly sacrificing his sense of self in his partner. This fear is amplified by the fact he lacks a driver's license and is dependent on Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie never makes either of his characters the obvious villain.

The couple face the kind of problems that come with long-term unions a decade in. Fundamentally, they continue to care for one another. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an persistent undercurrent of doubt about their future together.

Allegory and Meaning

While the otherworldly presence in Together act as a metaphor for these fears of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to a partner, the allegory avoids being hamfisted or heavy-handed. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments provide a brilliant analogue to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s final act, which won’t be spoiled here, has created disagreement on the movie's final takeaway about unhealthy partnerships. It has been said that single viewers have understood the narrative as a compelling reason for staying single. On the other hand, a few pairs having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own response could function as a revealing measure of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you see yourself in either protagonist and yell at the screen, or simply look at your other half and say, “I’d do that for you”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an exploration you can experience right now.

Together is currently playing on the streaming service Hulu now.
