The fast bowler Expected to Feature a Key Part in Iconic Rivalry

Pat Cummins bowling

The Australian skipper has claimed over 300 dismissals in 71 Test matches with an impressive average.

Australia's selection chief the selector has confirmed that pace spearhead Cummins will have a crucial role in this winter's England-Australia contest.

Speculation had been growing that the veteran bowler might miss the series due to a ongoing back issue that was still troubling him.

Previous updates from team management suggested no final decision had been made regarding his involvement, with the extended contest scheduled to begin on the 21st of November in the WACA.

The selector shared that his recovery is on track and felt positive about the prospects of taking part.

"It's clear that the window is narrowing and multiple considerations involved, not just his injury, but other factors as well," he commented.

"The outlook is good. There's strong faith that he will feature a significant role. Hopefully from the opening match. Should that not happen, we'll reassess."

Previous Setbacks

Cummins was ruled out Australia's limited-overs series against New Zealand and India recently after medical tests showed a stress reaction in his back.

Previous incidents include of spinal problems, with recurrences in multiple past seasons forcing him out of three Australian summers in four years.

He emphasized he would be bold in recovery efforts in his comeback strategy to ensure his availability for the Ashes.

He mentioned that there was no confirmation if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his rehabilitation but conceded it was "getting tight" for him to be fit for the initial match.

Alternative Arrangements

Should Cummins not be fit, former captain Steve Smith will lead the side.

The talented all-rounder was recently pulled out from the ODI lineup for their one-day international series against India as a safety move because of an abdominal issue.

He labeled it as a "small issue and stated that he'll feature in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "ideally positioned to be ready to bowl."

"Considerable effort has gone into building out the plan for him to take part for the opening match as an all-rounder," Bailey explained.

"His involvement was limited to the starting games anyway. His aggressive style the bat in limited-overs, should it hinder progress for a short period, the choice was made to take a cautious route."
