19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his first championship for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a former world number one, has endured a challenging season, managing just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in specific - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's initial title following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from March of the previous year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, comprising in Halle previously this season.

His counter-punching strategy and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had caused some to doubt if his skill to play at the elite level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, attempting to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players traded break points in the second set before Moutet, striving for his first ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a third set.

Moutet defended 4 early opportunities in a competitive final set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
